Inside Line Promotions – HAUBSTADT, Ind. (April 23, 2024) – David Gravel rebounded in a big way last weekend.

The Big Game Motorsports driver kicked off a pair of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series weekend races on Friday at Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Ky., where he hadn’t competed in a dozen years. Gravel was sixth quickest, won a heat race and placed fifth in the dash to earn the fifth starting position in the Paducah Sprint Car Showdown main event.

Gravel was running in third place and on the bumper of the second-place driver when another driver slid them both exiting a corner. As the drivers had to check up, Gravel and another driver made contact, sending him down the track and into another driver with both getting upside down. It ended the night early for Big Game Motorsports with a season-worst 23rd-place result.

The team rebuilt the car for Saturday’s Haubs Town Showdown at Tri-State Speedway, where Gravel set quick time during qualifying before he won both the heat race and the dash to garner the pole position in the A Main.

Gravel led early before swapping the top spot several times with Brady Bacon, who pulled away in the final laps. Gravel’s runner-up result was his 12th top five of the season – four more than any other World of Outlaws competitor.

“I thought we were maybe equally as good early, but once the fuel load came off he (Bacon) was superior,” Gravel said in a post-race interview on DIRTVision. “I thought I got through lapped traffic really, really good, and I saw him underneath me, and I did an aggressive move in lapped traffic, and that’s how he got the lead from me. Man, he just diced through lapped traffic there in the last 10 laps. Obviously, he was the best car last year and the best car this year.”

Gravel owns a 34-point advantage in the World of Outlaws championship standings heading into Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday for the World of Outlaws Premium Chevy Dealers Clash. Gravel has won at least one World of Outlaws race at the track during four of the last six years.
